I am hoping to defend my research this summer. I want to share my research with you because we need change and change involves knowledge and understanding. Storm and stress is NOT inevitable.
Rates of depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol use, and risky behaviours are higher in adolescence than in all other ages groups. This is NOT inevitable. Conflict with parents, teachers, and family is NOT inevitable. Not only is storm and stress not demonstrated in other cultures, research proves it can be undone (more on that in another post).
Stay tuned to learn what the literature and my research has found. Here’s to advocating for, spreading awareness about, and coming together to end negative stereotypes about adolescents in Western culture and bring forth a more balanced idea about this transition from childhood to adulthood.
